How Kayla works

Care that looks at the whole picture.

Every visit is built around real listening, hands-on treatment, and a whole-person plan that fits your life. Here's what that means for you:

  • You get a full, unrushed 50 minutes of focused care at every visit.
  • She takes the time to really listen and understand your whole story.
  • You get hands-on physical care, paired with strategies to settle your nervous system and mind.
  • She explains your body and the science of pain in plain words, so you feel fully in control.
  • You leave with simple, actionable steps that restore your physical resilience and your drive for daily life.
The whole-person approach

Your body doesn't work in pieces.
Neither should your care.

Pain and healing aren't only about muscles and joints. Using a Biopsychosocial framework, Kayla addresses how your body, nervous system, and daily life intersect — uniting science with whole-person care to restore your health, purpose, and vitality.

Body

Muscles, joints & movement

Hands-on treatment and movement strategies to release tight tissue, restore how your joints move, and build physical resilience. This forms the essential structural foundation to safely resolve your pain and get your body moving freely again.

Mind

The mind-body connection

Clinical research proves your thoughts and daily stress directly impact your body, acting like a volume dial for pain. Kayla uses evidence-based calming techniques to lower this nervous system threat response, settling your mind so your tissues can heal.

Spirit

Meaning, purpose & vitality

Healing isn't just about finishing a list of exercises — it's about restoring your spirit for daily life. Kayla anchors your physical recovery to what gives you meaning, helping you return to the activities, work, and people you love most.

A fresh take on physio

You don't need to be hurt to come in.

Many people think physio is only for after an injury. It isn't. Kayla helps you stay a step ahead — keeping your body moving well, easing everyday tension and stress, and helping you feel strong before small things grow into big ones.

That's what proactive care is about: checking in to protect your health, not only to fix it.

So many people come back on a regular basis — not because they're injured, but because they leave each session feeling empowered and in control of their health.

Good to know

Before your first visit

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No. In BC you can see a physiotherapist directly — just book online and come in. A few insurance plans ask for a referral, so it's worth a quick check with yours.

Can I use my insurance?

Many extended-health plans cover physiotherapy. Kayla doesn't direct bill, so you pay at your visit and get a receipt to send to your plan for reimbursement.

Do I have to be injured to come in?

Not at all. Plenty of people see Kayla to stay ahead of pain, ease everyday tension and stress, and keep moving well. Proactive care is always welcome.

What happens at my first visit?

Kayla takes time to hear your story, finds out what's really going on, treats you that same day, and sends you home with a few clear steps. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.

Can physiotherapy help with chronic pain?

Yes. Pain that's stuck around for months usually involves more than one sore spot — tight muscles, guarded movement, and a nervous system on high alert. Kayla looks at the whole picture, not just where it hurts.

Can stress make my pain worse?

Often, yes. When your nervous system stays keyed up, muscles hold more tension and pain can linger longer. Sessions with Kayla work with your nervous system as well as your body, so calming down is part of the plan.

Do you see clients from outside Nanaimo?

Yes. Kayla sees clients from all around Vancouver Island — mainly from Parksville, Nanoose Bay, and Lantzville down through Nanaimo to Cedar and Ladysmith. The clinic is based in Nanaimo's Old City, just off the highway.
